A nationally-recognized youth-serving organization continues to recruit volunteers to be matched up one-on-one with children from single-parent and nontraditional families, and to work with high school students enrolled in the Kauffman Scholars program. The time commitment is 2-4 hours a week or a few hours a month. Jackson County CASA A CASA volunteer is a trained community volunteer appointed by the court to advocate for the best interest of children who come to the attention of the court primarily as a result of abuse and/or neglect. Volunteers must be at least 21 years old, able to handle 1-2 cases at a time for a specific period of time, and available to work with social workers and attorneys involved with the cases.

Rebuild Joplin As
the city of Joplin continues to rebuild, skilled volunteers are
especially encouraged to help with home construction. Non-skilled
volunteers are also needed for surveying, tree watering and other
projects. Please register through the Rebuild Joplin website (see
information above). Virtual and home community opportunities are
available through the Joining Hands in the Heartland project through AmeriCorps St. Louis (314-772-9002 or Chelsea@americorps-stil.org). YouthFriends
mentors will be needed at various schools in the district this school
year. The time commitment for working one-on-one with a child is 30
minutes – one hour a week. You can choose from a range of in-school
activities, including reading with a student to having lunch with them.

up and coming entrepreneurs start, grow and succeed in their
businesses. Volunteers are needed for a resource partner with the U.S.
Small Business Administration to mentor and counsel entrepreneurs. You
will lead workshops and seminars, serve in one-on-one mentoring and
other specialized roles in marketing, IT and other areas. Knowledge of
small business start-up and operations is needed. Weekday and weekend
hours are available. A
receptionist is needed to greet visitors, answer phone calls and handle
the mail for 5-30 hours per week Monday – Friday. Multiple volunteers
can apply. Flexible hours are available. Volunteers
13 years old (with an adult) are needed to serve as dog and cat
socializers, help with office duties and assist with the foster care and
humane education programs. A
South Johnson County assisted living facility continues to recruit
volunteers 12 and older to visit residents, lead group activities, play
board games and other activities. Flexible hours and days are
available; great opportunity to earn school-based community service
hours. CAC is still distributing school supplies to families in the Hickman Mills School District. Volunteers are needed a few hours a week during this month to help with sorting donations and preparing backpacks. Hours are 9:30 am – 12:30 pm Monday – Friday. Have
a desire to work in the classroom? A nationally-recognized
organization that recruits business volunteers to teach students
state-approved, age-appropriate hands-on lessons about financial
literacy, workplace readiness and entrepreneurship seeks 600 additional
volunteers to teach K-12th grade
curriculum in area school districts. You must be at least 18 years old
and available one hour a week for five weeks, morning or afternoon hours
during the school day. A nationally-acknowledged riding center in Eastern Jackson County is currently recruiting volunteers in a number of areas, including serving as barn buddies, leading horses, and being side walkers within their five therapy programs, including their Horses for Heroes rehab program.
